My son recently asked about buying some new boots. He had been saving some money and had an idea what he wanted. I was surprised since he already has two pairs of boots ( and tennis shoes and nice shoes). He is a farm boy and likes to wear boots often, choosing them over other shoes most often.
He gave me his reasoning. His nice boots were for church, school programs and looking nice. While he has worn them to school, he didn’t want them scuffed up. He has his work boots, which are very comfortable but get worn for work most every day. This means they also get worn when working with cattle, so they may have manure or the lingering odor of such. He doesn’t want to wear those to school or places that may not appreciate our cattle.
So, he had an idea for the in-between boots. These boots would not be for work when they would get really dirty or smelly. They would be nice enough for light work, but wearing to school and out in public. And, he would pay for them.
Lots of lessons here. He thought about it, waited a while, and came up with the reasons. He saved the money. He chose a brand that should last. He said it really hurt to open to his wallet and pay the cash for them.
