I think as farmers and producers we think about feeding the world. We are raising beef cattle that feed our families and are sold as freezer beef to others in our local community and beyond. We raise corn, soybeans and wheat that are sold for domestically and internationally. A couple of years ago, we hosted a group of exchange students from Indonesia to tour our farm. The soybeans we were shipping out were contracted to be shipped to Jakarta. They were thrilled to see where their food was produced and we were honored to meet someone who was directly using our product on the other side of the globe.
I saw a meme recently read something like “my superpower is feeding people.” I had to agree with that. Of all the things I do, I feed people. I enjoy cooking and preparing meals for my family. I donate snacks for the soccer team and school parties. I offer snack boxes for FFA trips, band and cheerleading events. I like to take baked goods to meetings at work. I share my canning and baked goods for holiday and birthday gifts. I feel this is something I can do for people, especially people I care about.
Over the New Year’s holiday, we met a couple celebrating their 61st anniversary. We enjoyed chatting with them about their family including children, grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. They were enjoying a few days away from home. My husband asked what was their great words of wisdom about staying together for all those years. The wife said “Feed him well.”
