It happened again today.

Problem solving and teamwork at it’s finest.

Yes, I am talking about my kids and the cows.

We noticed this morning that two young heifers were not in their own pasture, but in a pasture with two older animals. Luckily, they were all contained within fences. They were just not within the fences where they were to supposed to be.

So, my youngest son and my daughter checked the fences and gates and made a quick repair (from the apparent escape!). They got some ears of corn and a bucket of feed and headed out on the utility vehicle. The animals quickly caught on to the treats being brought to them and they all started to follow the kids back to the desired pasture.

Then, I am greeted by my oldest son who was working another area of the farm who noticed we were up to something. He said that three people in the pasture in the middle of the day was just not normal. He jumped in to help. Between the three of them, the cows were sorted. The older cows were put in a smaller area and the heifers distracted with a feed bucket back to their assigned area. The older animals were led back to their larger area with some ears of corn. All gates were secured and fences were checked.

It was all taken care of. It was all very calm. No yelling. No wild running. They just did it. And, I just watched it all happen.
