So much corn!

At 15 years old, my son became the proud owner of a corn picker. I know this is not the norm for most teenagers, but my kid needed a picker. At the time, he did not have a driver’s license, but like most farm kids have been driving tractors for years. Also, notice it is a CORN PICKER, not a combine. He is picking whole ears of corn to sell. A couple of years ago, he dabbled with the notion of picking ear corn and boxing it to sell online for squirrel corn. We rented a picker to see if the idea would go anywhere. He started getting orders and got a little business going. Fast forward to March 2020, when suddenly people were at home and shopping more than ever online. His orders picked up tremendously! He was working an amazing number of hours sorting and boxing orders. And, his customers love it. They have sent him emails about how happy their squirrels are with his corn. Some have even sent pictures!! We have truly been overwhelmed by his success. He has kept records of income and expenses, evaluated supplies and shipping methods, and made an amazing number of business decisions. He is a young entrepreneur who is planning for his college expenses.

So, while he does not yet own his own vehicle to drive, my teenager owns a corn picker.
